Formula
Repeatedly divide by smallest prime factor until quotient is 1. Example: 60 = 2 x 30 = 2 x 2 x 15 = 2^2 x 3 x 5. Every integer > 1 has a unique prime factorization.
Example Calculations
Small Number
Input: Number: 84
Result: 84 = 2^2 x 3 x 7
Larger Number
Input: Number: 360
Result: 360 = 2^3 x 3^2 x 5
Prime Number
Input: Number: 97
Result: 97 is prime (no factors other than 1 and 97)

Frequently Asked Questions
What is prime factorization?
Breaking a number into prime factors. 12 = 2 x 2 x 3 = 2^2 x 3.
How to find prime factors?
Divide by smallest prime (2), continue with larger primes. 60 = 2^2 x 3 x 5.
Why important?
Fundamental in cryptography (RSA), finding GCD/LCM, simplifying fractions, and number theory.
Is 1 prime?
No, 1 is neither prime nor composite. Primes need exactly two distinct divisors.
Prime factorization in cryptography?
RSA relies on multiplying large primes being easy but factoring their product being extremely hard.
